Warwick School Department

System wide concerns: (7/14/05 revised)  

•    We need in writing A DETAILED template outlining the procedure for hiring new personnel .     This systemic hiring procedure must be consistent throughout the school district on paper as well as in practice with hiring committees that reflect reform mandates as well as all stakeholders (i.e., parents, teachers, and administrators). Presently I have seen no evidence any system wide consistent process/practice for hiring exists. Therefore are we in compliance with Article 31?

•  We need in writing A DETAILED explanation of all evaluation procedures .   Moreover, a systemic evaluation procedure, that looks and is consistent throughout the system on paper as well as in practice MUST EXIST. Presently I have seen no evidence that any system wide evaluation process exists on paper. Therefore are we in compliance with Article 31?

•  We need a formally organized procedure for mentoring new teachers. Presently there is no evidence that this is going on consistently through out the system.

•  Though SIT teams do exist according to the administrators; due to the lack of teacher participation, they are not meeting. Are we in compliance with Article 31?

•  We need parental and student participation in the educational decision making process system wide. (As mandated in policy book and educational reform.)

•  We need to get grades to the parents of our secondary students within five working days after the term is over like all the surrounding communities.

•  We need sound educational justification or explanation for our present cumulative grading formula.

•  We need a detailed systemic written plan for system-wide curriculum evaluation and revision. (The Horizon Protocol from the Department of Education could be utilized.)

•  We need to establish a plan for a better working relationship with the city council, mayor's office, the teachers union and the community.

•  We need to establish better communication between the Administration Building and the schools.

•  We need to create a written working plan to improve public relations (work with The Beacon on a section dedicated to school notes)

•    Establish a better website (Providence Public Schools).

•  Need to use technology tools for system wide coordination of administrative and curricula day-to-day procedures.

•  We need improvement on procedures for budget review and preparation.

•  We need to review the organization of the school committee and its procedures.

•  We need to make all information available electronically for access by all stakeholders.

•    Establish a plan to study the energy efficiency of all our facilities and future energy sources that will be cost saving and healthy for our students and employees.
